No more pretty lights

I used to while away, unproductive minutes at office admiring the pretty colours that monitored the important system. It was very amusing to see the colours change from green to yellow to orange to red and flashing, then make it's way back down the scale. People used to wander past and oooh and arrr and tut. I got to explain what the little spinny bit measured and that red and flashing was the prettiest thing it did.
My flashing lights are gone now. They have replaced the important server and now I get to see nothing but green lights. I miss the pretty colours.

Anyone lost a lake

I love daylight savings. I used to try to catch the first bus/train that would take me as close to my warm little apartment as possible. But now I am walking home, and I am not even wearing a scarf. (though still have hat and gloves hidden in my bag for emergencies).
While walking home from the station, I decided to go a different way. I found a decent sized lake surrounded by apartments, just minutes from were I live. With bridges and boats and waterbirds and everything. It's like finding a secret garden.

V for very big explosions

At risk of offending the purists, I would say is is quite a good movie adaptation. I felt the movie had flow, pace and kept me interested all the way through. It certainly helps that it has been 15 years since I read the comic, otherwise I think I would have remembered the plot too much.

And for the first time, I get to see them blow up a city I live in. YAY

Schnitzel for All

Just a quick blog to invite you all to Austria for skiing this New Year.

Accomodation and pickup from Munich is organised by bunnyspub. They also throw a good new years party.

Obsessive

The main problem with being able to do anything, is figuring out what anything I want to do. This is a problem everyone has ( I firmly believe everyone can do anything). Other people look like they sort it out easier than me.

My current plan I am working to involves,
1.Go to UK,
2.get job,
3.earn money to create stable financial platform for future years.
4.Become thin an beautiful.
5.Do cool stuff (within fiscal and dietary frameworks) preferably with husband.

1 and 2 are achieved.
3 and 4 have some issues. Mostly that I am not very good at restraint.
5 Is the object of my current obsessive indecision.

We just switched to daylight saving today. That means things get better from here on in. I am very much looking forward to summer. I miss the sun. What should I plan?. What should I plan, ahead of time and what do I do on impulse? Why do I go on a holiday, and then the next weekend feel like I never do anything. Should I really be spending money on this? How come all these trips need at least 8 days. Doesn't anyone organize Greek island sailing for a weekend?

Yes currently a very petty and shallow set of obsessions. I hope to get some worthwile ones later.

When indecision is too strong, the best option is to do nothing. I should just chill, wash some clothes, clean the kitchen and prepare for the working week.

Snow and Schnitzel

There was much snow and schnitzel to be had in Austria last weekend. I had a great time apres skiing and falling down the mountain. (and here is a picture of the mountain)

I have learnt that there a places in the world where , people expect you to know how to ski. This is a bit of a challenge for me, because I never properly learned.
For the sake of marital bliss, we decided that Dave shouldn't teach me, and I signed up for a full day's snow boarding lessons.
The ski instructor was handsome and cheery. But that did not stop me cursing him as he thinks I should get up and "try that turn again". I can fall spectacularly well. Fortunately the bar starts picking up just as the lessons come out for the day. So all is well.

There were many things to do apart from skiing and our host Mandy was having a birthday. She invited everyone she knew for ski bobbing. This is where I came to understand the ski culture. The mountain is covered in resturants and bars. We ski bobbed, drank some beer, ski bobbed some more, drank some more beer, ski bobbed, stopped for dinner, lady killers and the crocodile game, and ski bobbed home in the dark. A ski bob is like a bicycle, with skis instead of wheels and no breaks.

The crocodile game involves pushing down one of the crocodile's teeth and passing it on. If it bites you, you must drink lady killer and put the sticker on your face.

The next day I won a free Tandem paraglide while drinking in the pub. So off we go up the mountain, and then jump off and fly around for a bit. For those of you who get a chance to paraglide, I would recommend it IT's cool.

Much beer and schnitzel was had by all.

So quickly do the mighty fall

My name is alixkid I am a lapsed messaholic. Currently decending into the pits of unitidiness. Where I firmly intend to stay if I can help it.

I eat too much, I drink too much, I mess too much.

At least that is the major outcome from the dinner party, where much tasty food was eaten by many happy people, with far too much wine. The mess is merely a by-product, that adds character to my home.

Another by-product of the party is that I now have new furniture. The chest-seat (chest with cushions on top) allows me to sit by the window and look out at the sun. If you pile on enough cushions, you can sit at the table. Also doubling as a handy, hide some things here chest. Dave heroicly carried it home for me from Greenwich. Three cheers for men doing manly things. Horrah Horrah Horrah

This weekend we ski.
